Youth Awards
Dan Patch
Since 1966, one member of the 4-H horse project has been awarded the Dan
Patch Award.
The award is based on the individuals overall achievement,
leadership, and service.
Nine additional finalists are awarded trips to the State Horse Show.
State Show Leadership trips
Four trips to the State Horse Show are awarded to the top placing youth in 6th through 9th grade based on their Resume and Portfolio submissions.
National Leadership trips
The top twenty youth of all ages are awarded National Leadership trips based on their Resume and Portfolio submissions.
Adult Awards
4H Horse Association Volunteer(s) of the Year
Each year the directors of the Minnesota 4H Horse Association select a volunteer or volunteers to be recognized as our state Volunteer of the Year during the State 4H Horse Show. The winner of this award is selected from the pool of volunteers who serve the 4H Horse Association at a state level. Recipients may receive the award once. They receive a plaque from the association. Their accomplishments and contributions will be reported on the association web site after the State Horse Show each year.
Eligibility and Selection Process:
Nominees are volunteers who have worked with Minnesota State 4H Horse Association sponsored events.
Names are submitted by MN 4H Horse State Association Board Members with the recipient(s) selected by the Executive Board of the Association.
4H Horse Association Friends of 4H
The 4H Horse Association is supported each year by many individuals and groups outside of our 4H family. This award recognizes up to 5 of those contributors each year for their contributions to our state programs and events. Nominations are submitted by members of the association Board of Directors, with the winners being selected by the Executive Committee of the Board. Plaques are awarded during the State Horse Show. Recipients’ contributions to State Association efforts will be reported on the association web site following the State Show.
Eligibility and Selection Process:
Nominees must have contributed time, goods or money to Minnesota State 4H Horse events.
Nominees are not 4H volunteers working with the horse program.
Names are submitted by MN 4H Horse State Association Board Members with the recipients selected by the Executive Board of the Association.
4H Horse Project County All Star Volunteer Award
This is a new award replacing the Green Blood Award, which was retired by the Association in November of 2008. This award will be given starting with the 2010 State Show to one volunteer from each county. Each year every county may select one person for this award from the adult volunteers supporting their horse project. How each County All Star is selected may be determined by their county. Their names must be submitted through the applicable County or Regional 4H office to the 4H Horse Association Awards Committee by July 1st of the award year. All county award winners will be listed in the State Horse Show program and receive a certificate from the Minnesota 4H Horse Association. Those present at the State Horse Show awards presentation will be asked to stand for recognition.
Eligibility and Selection Process:
Selection is determined by each county.
The individual must be an adult volunteer for the Horse Program in the county.
Award winner names (with the county name) need to be sent by the County or Regional Office to Mary Brugger no later than July 1st of the award year to be included in the State Show Program listing.
