Western Heritage
Minnesota 4-H Western Heritage is not a project, but an activity to help youth explore and preserve our Western Heritage. As youth move through the program, they will explore our Western Heritage and develop an appreciation for it; learn to balance competition and education; learn safety skills; develop tools of sportsmanship and realistic goal setting; and develop leisure opportunities.
4-H members participating do not have to be
enrolled in the Horse Project.
Coggins papers are required on all horses participating.
The regional Western Heritage events are placed throughout Minnesota to give horse project members an opportunity for additional competition and experience. Members may participate at the regional event of their choice; however they may only compete in one regional event each year. Top placing participants (current grade 7 and older) qualify for the state Western Heritage event at the State Horse Show. Western Heritage is an activity, not a show class. Qualification in Western Heritage does not grant youth the privilege to compete in show classes.
- Grade eligibility for regional and state events:
- Jr. completed grade 4-5 (regional only)
- Int. completed grades 6-8
- Sr. completed grades 9 to one year beyond grade 12
-
Horse Identification papers are due along with Regional Entries Horse ID Form
